Instagram earnings calculator: how it works
Instagram does not pay creators per follower. Most income comes from brands paying for sponsored posts, Reels and Stories. This calculator estimates what a brand might pay for one post, based on published 2026 influencer rate guides, then multiplies it by how many deals you expect.
Enter your follower count and your engagement rate (likes plus comments, divided by followers). The tool finds your tier (Nano, Micro, Mid-tier, Macro or Mega), places you within it, adjusts for engagement and the type of content, and shows a low, expected and high price. The United Kingdom and India have their own benchmarks; every other country uses the global dollar benchmark.
Formula and assumptions
Formula
Base rate = interpolate the tier benchmark at your follower countPost rate = base rate × engagement multiplier × format multiplier × (1 + usage rights %)Format multiplier: feed 1, Reel 1.35 (1.2–1.5), Story set 0.5Monthly = post rate × posts per month; yearly = monthly × 12
Assumptions
- Instagram does not pay per follower. This calculator estimates what brands typically pay a creator for one sponsored post, from published 2026 influencer rate guides. Real quotes depend on niche, content quality, usage rights and negotiation.
- Rates are set by follower tier (Nano, Micro, Mid-tier, Macro, Mega). Between the typical account in each tier the rate is interpolated on a log scale; above 2 million followers it stays flat and should be read as a minimum.
- Engagement rate = (likes + comments) ÷ followers. Below 1% the rate is cut by 25%; 3% or more adds 15%; 6% or more adds 30% (SocialHipper's 2026 pricing model).
- A Reel is priced at about 1.35 times a feed post (range 1.2 to 1.5) and a set of Stories at about half a feed post. The Reel multiplier midpoint is an Earnlitix calculation from published ranges.
- Only the United Kingdom and India have country-specific rate sources, so they get their own benchmarks. Every other country uses the Global (USD) benchmark, converted to your currency at approximate rates.
- Monthly and yearly figures are the per-post rate × the number of sponsored posts you enter. They assume you keep landing deals at that rate, which is not guaranteed.
Worked example
25,000 followers, 2.5% engagement, one Reel, global benchmark
- 25,000 followers is in the Micro tier (10K to 100K). The global feed-post benchmark at that size is about $88 low, $202 expected and $459 high.
- A 2.5% engagement rate is in the average band (1% to 3%), so the multiplier is 1.00.
- A Reel is priced at about 1.35 times a feed post (1.2 to 1.5): $106 low, $272 expected and $688 high.
- At two sponsored Reels a month the expected total is 2 × $272 = about $545 a month, or $6,537 a year.
Result: About $272 for one Reel (range $106 to $688), roughly $545 a month and $6,537 a year at two paid Reels a month.
Limitations
- These are planning benchmarks from published rate guides, not rate cards and not what Instagram pays. Real quotes move a lot with niche, audience country, content quality, usage rights and how well you negotiate.
- Only the United Kingdom and India have country-specific sources. Other countries use the global dollar benchmark, which is mostly US-based, so local rates can be lower or higher. India figures are based on Reel rates.
- Engagement is measured as (likes + comments) ÷ followers, and sources report very different averages, so measure yours the same way. The calculator also assumes you actually find the deals; many creators get fewer, or none, at small sizes.
