RPM source

RPM range for this category: $8.00 – $30 per 1,000 views (expected ≈ $17).

Sourced figure Sourced: a third-party source publishes a figure for this country and category. It is still an estimate, because YouTube publishes no official RPM.

YouTube RPM by category and country (2026)

RPM is what a creator earns per 1,000 views after YouTube's share. This table lists the 15 categories YouTube lets you assign to a video, for the 20 countries Earnlitix supports. Each cell shows the expected RPM in USD, with the low to high range underneath.

Bold figures are sourced: a published third-party figure exists for that country and category. Figures marked ≈ in italics are Earnlitix estimates (the US figure for the category × a country ratio). 39 of 300 figures are sourced and 261 are estimates.

Swipe sideways to see every country. The category column stays in place.

YouTube RPM by country

The viewer's country sets the rate, not the creator's. These are typical RPM figures across all categories (RevenueLab, 2026). The ratio is what Earnlitix multiplies a US category figure by when no figure is published for that country and category: the median of up to four sources.

How these figures were built

  • Categories: the 15 assignable categories from the YouTube Data API (videoCategories, assignable = true).
  • US figure per category: the average of every published US range that clearly matches the category. Where a source only has a close niche (for example “Tech Reviews” for Science & Technology) it is used and labelled as matched. Film & Animation and Nonprofits & Activism have a single source.
  • Other countries: where a source publishes a figure for that country and category (UK, Canada and India in EarnTrackr's table, plus InfluencerMetric for India) it is used and marked as sourced. Everywhere else the figure is the US figure × the country ratio and is marked as an estimate.
  • None of this is an official YouTube number. Real RPM also depends on season, video length, ad formats and audience, so check YouTube Studio for yours.

Reality check: AIR Media-Tech's real YouTube Studio data from 300 channels (mixed audiences, medians) shows about $2 to $10 by niche, for example Education & Science $10.22, Entertainment $2.43 and Gaming $2.05. Real channels often sit in the lower half of these ranges.

YouTube revenue calculator: how it works

YouTube pays partners a share of the advertising money earned on their videos. For most long-form videos the creator receives a little over half of that ad revenue (YouTube publishes the exact split in its Help Centre). The number creators watch is RPM, revenue per 1,000 views, measured after YouTube has taken its share. That is different from CPM, the price advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions before the split.

This calculator multiplies your views by an RPM. You can type your own RPM, taken from YouTube Studio under Analytics → Revenue, or pick one of the 15 categories YouTube lets you assign to a video, plus an audience country, and see a low, expected and high estimate side by side.

Every figure carries a label. Sourced means a published third-party figure exists for that country and category (the United States for every category, and the United Kingdom, Canada and India for several). Estimate means Earnlitix multiplied the US figure for the category by a country ratio drawn from published country-level RPM data, because no figure was found. The full category-by-country table sits below the calculator.

Formula and assumptions

Formula

  • Estimated revenue = (views ÷ 1,000) × RPM

Assumptions

  • RPM is revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube's revenue share (what the creator receives).
  • RPM ranges come from third-party sites (see sources). YouTube does not publish official RPM by category or country, so treat them as rough guides.
  • Each figure is labelled: sourced means a published figure exists for that country and category; estimate means Earnlitix multiplied the US category figure by a country ratio.
  • Views are assumed to be monetised long-form views from the selected audience country. Shorts, memberships, sponsorships and Super Chat are not included.
  • Use the "my own RPM" option with your YouTube Studio number for the most accurate estimate.

Worked example

100,000 monthly views on a US-audience finance channel (Education category, Finance & business focus)

  1. Views ÷ 1,000 = 100,000 ÷ 1,000 = 100 thousand-view blocks.
  2. Low RPM $8 → 100 × 8 = $800. Expected RPM $17 → 100 × 17 = $1,700. High RPM $30 → 100 × 30 = $3,000.
  3. The same 100,000 views at an Indian finance RPM of ₹160 (range ₹90–₹250) gives ₹16,000 (range ₹9,000–₹25,000).

Result: Expected estimate: $1,700, within a plausible range of $800 to $3,000.

Limitations

  • RPM ranges come from third-party sites; YouTube does not publish official figures by category or country, so treat them as rough guides, not promises. Most country figures are estimates (a US figure scaled by a ratio) and are labelled that way.
  • Real RPM moves with audience country, season (it usually rises in Q4), video length, ad formats and and how many viewers use ad blockers.
  • Only long-form ad revenue is modelled. Shorts, memberships, Super Chat, sponsorships and affiliate income are not included, and Shorts normally pay far less per view.
  • Earnings are before income tax. You may also need to meet YouTube Partner Programme eligibility before any revenue is paid.

Frequently asked questions

What is RPM on YouTube?

RPM (revenue per mille) is the estimated amount you earn per 1,000 views after YouTube's share is deducted. You can see it in YouTube Studio. It already includes the effect of views that were not monetised, which is why it is lower than CPM.

What is the difference between CPM and RPM?

CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube's cut and counting only monetised plays. RPM is what you receive per 1,000 total video views. RPM is the better number for forecasting your own income.

Why is RPM in India lower than in the US?

Advertisers generally bid less per impression in India, so the same view count earns less. Finance and business topics tend to attract the highest bids in both markets, and entertainment the lowest.

How many views do I need to earn 1,000 a month?

At an RPM of $17 you need about 59,000 views to earn $1,000; at an Entertainment-category RPM of $3.56 you need roughly 281,000. Divide your target income by your RPM and multiply by 1,000.

Does this include Shorts, sponsorships or memberships?

No. It models long-form ad revenue only. Add those income streams separately because they depend on deals and subscriber behaviour this tool cannot know.

How accurate is the estimate?

It is a planning aid. If you already have a channel, use your own RPM from YouTube Studio; if you do not, use the range rather than the single expected number.

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?

There is no single rate. It depends on niche, audience country, video length and season. In this calculator's benchmarks a US finance channel has an expected RPM of $17 (range $8 to $30) and the Entertainment category about $3.56, so 1,000 views are worth roughly $3.50 to $17 in expected terms, and less with a mostly Indian audience. Enter your own views and RPM for your numbers.

What are the YouTube video categories?

YouTube lets you assign one of 15 categories to a video: Film & Animation, Autos & Vehicles, Music, Pets & Animals, Sports, Travel & Events, Gaming, People & Blogs, Comedy, Entertainment, News & Politics, Howto & Style, Education, Science & Technology, and Nonprofits & Activism. Other IDs in the YouTube Data API, such as Movies or Shows, cannot be assigned. This calculator and the table below it cover all 15.

Which YouTube category pays the most?

In the third-party data used here, Science & Technology (US expected RPM about $11.75) and Education (about $8.46) pay the most, while Nonprofits & Activism (about $2.00), Music (about $2.41) and People & Blogs (about $2.85) pay the least. Finance and business videos, usually filed under Education, are higher still at about $17. The category only sets the starting point: the audience country matters more.

Which country has the highest YouTube RPM?

Third-party datasets generally put wealthy advertiser markets such as the US, Australia, the Nordic countries and Switzerland near the top and South Asia near the bottom, but they disagree by several times on individual countries. YouTube does not publish RPM by country, so the calculator shows ranges and names its sources rather than a single figure.
