Most countries tax income in bands. The first slice of your income is taxed at a low rate, sometimes zero, and each higher slice is taxed at a higher rate. Only the part of your income inside a band is taxed at that band's rate, so moving into a higher bracket never reduces your take-home pay below what it was before.
This calculator applies the published brackets for India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, Singapore, France, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Ireland and the Netherlands. The United Arab Emirates has no personal income tax, so that option simply shows that only VAT applies. Where a country has a standard deduction or personal allowance, it is subtracted first. Germany, France and Singapore ask for taxable income, meaning income after your own reliefs, because their systems depend on many individual deductions. You get the total tax, your effective rate (tax ÷ income) and your marginal rate (the rate on the next unit of income).
Ejemplo resuelto
UK, 2026/27: £60,000 salary (England, Wales and Northern Ireland)
- Personal Allowance £12,570 is tax-free, so taxable income = 60,000 − 12,570 = £47,430.
- Basic rate 20% on the first £37,700 = £7,540.
- Higher rate 40% on the remaining £9,730 = £3,892.
- Total income tax = £11,432.
Resultado: Effective rate 19.1%, marginal rate 40%. For comparison, a US single filer on $100,000 pays $13,170 federal income tax (13.2% effective) after the $16,100 standard deduction.
Limitaciones
- Only a simplified resident-individual calculation is made: no social security or National Insurance (exceptions: Norway's trygdeavgift, Ireland's USC and the Dutch first-bracket premiums are included because they are part of the official rate), no state, provincial or local tax, only the standard credits, and no capital-gains rules.
- The US result is federal tax for a single filer. Canada is federal tax only, and the UK excludes Scotland, which has different bands.
- Germany, France and Singapore need taxable income after your reliefs; entering gross salary overstates the tax.
- Each country uses the newest tax year we could verify. Rules change every year, so always confirm with the tax authority or a qualified adviser before filing.
